I've read several posts about people having problems, I'm no expert on VPN's generally but playing about with roms was the answer for me and KitKat looks like the solution overall. I went to and installed this rom, put on BusyBox, set a new VPN configuration on Servers Ultimate and lo and behold it only works!

I looked what version Android that runs - and it's KitKat. Until today.ĭetermined to get it working I read right the way through this thread and Sanders said on one post he's had it working on his Nexus 7. I dropped Sanders a line for help but he wasn't able to give me any advice so this all went into a drawer for a few weeks. The info page also said 'public connectable: Yes' so I was racking my brains. Not able to ping, yet the client showed the host public IP address. I tried a different Pie release and this solved the wifi errors and I could connect but no traffic. I thought nothing to lose so I found a version of Pie which was pretty recent and very buggy but I could connect on this, no traffic and a couple of wifi errors. I found a version of Oreo and that produced no errors but I couldn't connect. That produced more errors, then I read somewhere Marshmallow was no good for this due to security lockdowns so I tried Nougat. The final version was Android Lollipop so I thought I've rooted it, let's try going a bit more extreme and put on custom ROMs starting with Marshmallow. I kept looking at the logs and things like PIE errors were mentioned. Then I went right back to basics, using a Samsung S4 i9505 I installed the final released stock firmware, rooted it and nothing. I tried adjusting so many settings, I analysed the logs for hours, I'd tried putting it into DMZ on the router - nothing. I've finally got the VPN server working after many months of trying.
